And then after a delicious cooked breakfast (Dad - full English and me - Eggs Royale) we headed off to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to see the Mary Rose, HMS Victory and the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

The Mary Rose, favourite warship of Henry VIIIth, was first commissioned in 1511 and sank in July 1545 fighting the French in the Battle of Solent, just off the coast of Portsmouth. Her hull was discovered buried in silt in 1971 and after years of excavation and planning she was finally raised on 11 October 1982.

HMS Victory, the most famous ship in the history of the Royal Navy, is best known as Horatio Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21 October 1805.

Today Victory is preserved at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and, as the flagship of the First Sea Lord & Chief of Naval Staff, is the oldest commissioned warship in the world.
