Lake Bolsena

After spending half a day in Orvieto we decided to drive 15 minutes to nearby Lake Bolsena.  The lake gets rave reviews as a hidden Italian gem and when we got there we could see why.  It was a mix of ancient town and a sparkling blue lake surrounded by huge trees and flowers giving it an almost tropical feel.

The kids were in heaven and swam and jumped around in the water for 2 hours. YES - two whole hours.  Luckily there was a shaded cafe nearby where we could sit, sip shandies and watch their shenanigans.

Obviously after all that swimming we were starving and I had a tip for a great eating place - pizza of course.  Not only was this place in a great location, but it had the biggest and one of the best, if not the best, pizza we've had since we've been here.  All of the pizzas have been great, but this one was huge and tasty and I want some more right now!

After dinner we wandered the streets.  Unbelievably the kids had room for one of these each.....

And the old part of town looked beautiful in the golden evening light.....
