Sun 7 Miyajima Island

Big day today with an early-ish start to Miyajima Island.  It was hot. Really hot. The train trip was good, the ferry trip fine and Miyajima extra hot, crowded but beautiful.

Cute puppies in watermelon shirts being very well behaved keeping their sun caps on 😁

Three hot stooges, one of them a bit grouchy.  Guess which one?

Felt for these rickshaw drivers.  It was sooo hot and humid and some of the passengers were not light.

Miyajima Island is home to this stunning, iconic and quintessentially Japanese torii gate, initially viewed at high tide...

There was lots to see in Miyajima but the heat made it tricky.

We took a 1.7km combination of circular and funicular cable cars up the hill and then I made the (very unpopular) executive decision to walk back down.  That executive (who also happened to be wearing very inappropriate sandals for steep bush terrain) was unceremoniously sacked when we got our sweaty, manky, stinky bodies back down to the bottom.

NB - the grouchy one is still grouchy.

But, despite the wretched heat, the sights were worth it as the piccies show...

Torri gates at low tide. Grouch now smiling 😀

After a well earned rest at our apartment we ventured out for dinner at a nearby izakaya , which translates to stay, drink, place.  Delicious smokey bbq'd chicken, pork, wasabi beef, avocado and mushroom.
